Energy has never been a question with Sanctus Real. Their music is overpowered by it. Fans have become drawn to their stadium rock sound, but their newest album, We Need Each Other, shines for another reason.

It’s easy to become lazy lyrically when your sound is as dynamic as Sanctus Real; however the subject matter is anything but ordinary on We Need Each Other. The title track provides an amazing poetic sense of why God is our friend and why we need him, while “Turn on the Lights” and “Lay down My Guns” tackle subject matter as precious as loneliness and pride.

While the message is thick and complex, the sound does not refrain or take a step back. The instruments are still filled with energy and the sound enthusiastic and hard. The combination of the catchy hooks, high impact sound, and powerful messages makes Sanctus Real “We Need Each Other” a must own and one of their best albums to date.

“Can You Feel it,” tends to remind those of the typical alternative rock meets dance/pop. “Everything Glorious” is another typical and formulaic track on the album. However, the album is still full of creativity thanks to Crowder’s ability to successful mix and match genres – many of which will make their way all on the same track. Crowder also continues to make some rousing anthems despite skepticism from some.

David Crowder and his band provide a nice worship album with a broad range of sounds and genre. That’s not a disappointment at all. The only major reason to knock this album is that other than the fusion of genres, it’s your typical worship/alternative rock album.

Skillet’s seventh studio album, Comatose, keeps a similar formula to the band’s 21^st century success with some added progressive electronic rock. The band combines the sometimes edgy and gritty sound with a friendly pop rock and captivating hook to keep the listeners glued.

Comatose borrows heavily off the earlier mainstream success of Evanescence, none more familiar then on the popular track, “Rebirthing.” The aggressive but catchy rock tune naturally produces that level of positive adrenaline we love from Christian hard rock music. “Whispers in the Dark” is Skillet’s strongest lyrical masterpiece while “Better then Drugs” is a simple yet effective approach on an effective melody.

Skillet’s Comatose appears to make the band switch effortlessly sometimes between hard, aggressive rock and light rock with a poppy sound. Comatose continues to ride high off the success of Lava and will find a nice niche once again.

Many debated the logistics of whether or not Switchfoot should release a greatest hits album, considering that they didn’t really hit main stream until 2003 with The Beautiful Letdown. It’s important to remember that the band has actually been around for over a decade with many independent releases.

Seventh Day Slumber and their newest album, Take Everything,is what you would want from the hard rock Christian band. Intense guitar riffs with aggressive lyrics. In fact, Seventh Day Slumber has never shied away from talking about deep issues such as drug addition and depression, so fans would expect similar concepts on Take Everything.

Hammitt, who is the lead singer of Sanctus Real, both take turns sharing the vocal spotlight with the talented Bethany Dillon or the two join in and back each other up.

Addison Road’s self-titled debut album brings a wide mix of positive and upbeat anthems over sought by musical mastermind Chris Stevens (Toby Mac, Sanctus Real, Mandisa). The female-fronted band sticks to the worship basics, keeping simple lyrics with a driving sound.
